FMD status is "further proof of the excellence in agriculture"

Speaking at an event held at Embrapa (the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company) to celebrate the full eradication of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Brazil this Thursday (5 April), President Michel Temer celebrated the advances of Brazilian agribusiness. "We have offered more proof of the excellence of our meat, our agriculture and livestock and our health inspection service," he commented.

The result, according to Temer, is an example of what can be achieved with "persistence and determination" in the sector: "This took many years of research, of initiatives. A fight of which Brazil was always at the forefront," the president pointed out.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) will declare Brazil as officially free from FMD with vaccination in May. The recognition was possible thanks to a partnership of more than 50 years between Brazil’s health inspection services and the private sector, which includes over 2.7 million farmers.
