Government of Brazil earns over US$1 billion from airport concession

Three foreign groups will manage four airports in Brazil, for whose concessions they paid 3.72 billion reais (US$1.17 billion) during an auction held on Thursday in Brasilia, said Brazilian airport infrastructure company Empresa Brasileira de Infra-estrutura Aeroportuária.

The minimum investment projected for the four airports – Porto Alegre, Salvador, Fortaleza and Florianópolis – is 6.61 billion reais during the concession period, which will be 30 years (extendable for another five), with the exception of the airport of Porto Alegre, whose concession is for 25 years (extendable for another five).

German operator Fraport, which manages five airports in Europe, five in Asia, two in Africa and one in Latin America, was granted the tender for airports in Fortaleza (capital of Ceará state) and Porto Alegre (the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul).

Fraport paid 1.5 billion reais for Fortaleza airport and 382 million for Porto Alegre airport.

Flughafen Zürich AG, which manages Zurich airport, won the bidding for the airport in Florianópolis, the state capital of Santa Catarina, with a proposal of 241 million reais. Read Full Article
