Inflation reaches lowest rate for March in 24 years

The cost of living for Brazilians continues to fall. The official monthly inflation rate (the IPCA, or Broad Consumer Price Index) stood at 0.09% in March, resulting in a total year-to-date inflation of 0.70%. In both comparison bases, these are the lowest rates for the month since the implementation of the Real economic plan in 1994. The numbers were published on Tuesday (10 April) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In the month, a 15.42% reduction in airfares was the main factor driving down inflation, followed by a 0.19% decrease in the price of gasoline. Local and long-distance calling rates from landlines to mobiles also went down, further reducing the March results. Read Full Article
