Survey shows improvement in 20 safety indicators in Rio

Data from the Rio de Janeiro Public Security Institute shows that 20 safety indicators evolved favourably during the first month of federal intervention in the state. The survey, conducted by Governo do Brasil, compared numbers between March this year and the same month of 2017.

An important indicator that shows this evolution in the short term is the so-called “violent lethality” rate, which aggregates crime rates for murder, homicide resulting from police intervention, robbery followed by death and bodily injury followed by death. In the comparison between March 2017 and March 2018, the indicator saw a 2.90% decrease.

The data collected represents only the effects of the first full month of intervention in the state. The government understands that these numbers need to improve further. Read Full Article
