A bill sanctioned this Tuesday (11) by President Michel Temer will benefit thousands of Brazilians in rural and urban areas. The law allows people affected to receive title and be entitled to documentation proving full possession of their land. "[With the law, the population] will have the feeling that they belong to Brazilian citizenship," Temer said.

“’This belongs to me' [they can now say]: if you do not have the title, the feeling you have is that, at a certain moment, it will no longer belong to the occupant of that area," the president added. With the law sanctioned, the process of issuing titles will be less bureaucratic, allowing citizens broader access to public policies.

The land title regularisation law will grant 460,000 rural land titles to family farmers by 2018 through the National Institute of Colonisation and Agrarian Reform (INCRA), Temer recalled. "After we inherited an extraordinary deficit in the National Agrarian Reform Program, land is now being distributed and, therefore... we end the scenario of legal uncertainty [regarding possession of land]," he added.
