On Wednesday, October 9th, The Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce and Drummond Advisors hosted a discussion on key factors to consider when investing in Brazil, with a focus on real estate. Renowned economist Otaviano Canuto shared his views on the macro-economic outlook for the country. His remarks were followed by a discussion on the various structures and means through which real estate investments can be made and the tax-related issues that need to be considered before doing so.

Otaviano Canuto is a thought leader, published economics author, and experienced in managing knowledge networks and providing strategic advice to senior management of multilateral institutions, governments, and private investors. His career includes 15 years as vice president, executive director or senior adviser in multilateral institutions, including the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). He is currently a nonresident senior fellow in the Global Economy and Development Program at the Brookings Institution, a principal of the Center for Macroeconomics and Development, and a senior fellow at the Policy Center for the New South.
