In recent years, Brazil has witnessed the significant social and environmental impacts of large-scale mining activities, particularly in the state of Minas Gerais. Events such as the Mariana and Brumadinho dam incidents have drawn attention to the vulnerabilities faced by local communities during environmental crises — especially regarding access to essential services and support during recovery.
With growing interest in lithium exploration in regions like Vale do Jequitinhonha, important conversations are emerging about how environmental changes can affect different segments of the population in distinct ways. Studies show that women, especially those in rural and traditional communities, often face unique challenges in the context of environmental disruption and adaptation.
The Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Instituto Por Elas and its YACY Por Elas project, will host a seminar on “The Environmental Impact on Women: Mining in Brazil.” This timely conversation will highlight experiences from the field and bring together diverse perspectives from women working across sectors to promote sustainable development and inclusive dialogue.
We invite you to join us for this thoughtful exchange focused on the intersections of environment, community, and resilience.
