Art in Brackets™ opens a space in TriBeCa

New York, NY — On Friday, March 13, 2026, Art in Brackets™– Art Consultancy and Advisory – opens a temporary exhibition space at 46 Walker Street in TriBeCa. The 2,000-square-foot storefront, located in a landmarked building, marks a deliberate shift from the firm’s base in the Park Slope Historic District to a public-facing platform in Lower Manhattan.

The inaugural exhibition introduces a curatorial framework that explores the transatlantic artistic exchange between Africa and Brazil, foregrounding Afro-diasporic visual languages that traverse photography, painting, sculpture, textiles, and design. By presenting contemporary art alongside self-taught practices and material culture, the exhibition challenges conventional distinctions between fine art, craft, and design, emphasizing shared histories, techniques, and relational aesthetic strategies.

Photography anchors this dialogue. Works by the pioneering Cameroonian-Nigerian photographer Samuel Fosso and Burkinabé photographer Sanlé Sory are presented alongside Brazilian artist Adriano Machado, whose practice reflects the formal and conceptual influence of both artists. Together, they map a lineage of studio portraiture and performative identity across continents.

The exhibition further highlights the work of self-taught Brazilian artists whose practices expand modernist narratives. A rarely available wool painting by Madalena Santos Reinbolt (1919–1977) underscores her singular textile-based compositions; Reinbolt received her first U.S. institutional solo exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum in 2025. Art in Brackets founders Fernanda Mazzuco and Lu Solano served on the exhibition’s advisory committee. Two paintings by Aurelino dos Santos (1942–2026), known for his multi-perspectival urban landscapes rooted in Bahia, extend this exploration of spatial invention and vernacular modernity.

The inaugural program is organized in collaboration with Albertz Benda, Yossi Milo, Galeria Estação, Almeida & Dale, Carmo Johnson Projects, Nara Roesler, Luisa Strina, Galeria Oto Reifschneider, VERSO, Pet Lamp and Adire African Textiles.
