After a Decade, Brazil to Return: USA vs. Brazil — June 27, 2026

Newport, Rhode Island, USA - The Newport International Polo Series proudly announces one of the most anticipated matches of its 35th season: USA vs. Brazil, taking place at 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The match is part of the Club’s 150th Diamond Jubilee, commemorating a century and a half since the introduction of polo to America in Newport, Rhode Island.

Brazil’s return to Newport is a moment of great significance, as the nation rejoins the Series after an eleven-year hiatus. Victorious in its debut appearance in 2011 and narrowly defeated in its second match in 2015, Brazil now returns with determination and pride, aiming to secure its second title in the Newport International Polo Series and reaffirm its place among the world’s leading polo nations.

Renowned for its excellence in polo and its internationally ranked players, Brazil brings a dynamic and highly competitive presence to the field. Representing the esteemed Sociedade Hípica Paulista of São Paulo, the team features players with numerous titles under their belt and diverse international experience. Team captain José de Sá will mark his return to New England as a former graduate of Cornell University Graduate School, adding a meaningful personal connection to this international contest.

The Opening Ceremony will feature the Brazilian national anthem and the raising of Brazil’s flag at centerfield alongside that of the United States, honoring the Brazilian delegation and celebrating the enduring friendship between the two countries. This match stands not only as a premier sporting event, but also as a vibrant expression of international connection and shared passion.

Beyond the sport, Brazil’s unmistakable cultural identity—rich in energy, color, music, and joy—will be celebrated throughout the day, offering a truly immersive experience for players and spectators alike. In tribute to Brazil’s cultural influence, the event will be infused with the spirit of Rio Carnaval, featuring festive décor, music, and lively elements that reflect the rhythm and style of Brazil both on and off the field.

Since 1992, the Newport International Polo Series has welcomed teams from around the world, promoting goodwill and cultural exchange through sport. Brazil’s participation in the 2026 season underscores this mission and highlights the strong ties between the international polo community and Brazilian sport.

During their visit, the Brazilian delegation will be hosted in Newport, an historic seaside city celebrated for its architectural beauty, maritime heritage, and longstanding role in American sport and culture. A series of associated events throughout the weekend will further foster cultural exchange and international camaraderie.

Gates will open early, inviting guests to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, hospitality, and picnicking in the scenic setting of the polo grounds ahead of the 5:00 PM match.

This event is presented as a tribute to Brazil’s rich sporting tradition and to the unifying power of international competition. The 2026 season will also feature teams from Mongolia, Italy, Ireland, South Africa, Jamaica, England, and Switzerland, with matches held every Saturday from June through September.
