NEW YORK — Three years after her passing, Rita Lee — the irreverent voice that helped define Brazilian rock from Os Mutantes to a five-decade solo career — returns to the screen. Ritas, the new documentary directed by Oswaldo Santana and co-directed by Karen Harley, makes its U.S. premiere this Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) in Astoria, Queens.
A Farewell in Her Own Words
Ritas (Brazil, 2025, 83 min.) is a vibrant, irreverent, and deeply personal portrait of the artist fans crowned Brazil's "Queen of Rock." The film is told largely in Rita Lee's own words, drawn from her final, previously unseen interview, and weaves together beloved songs from across her groundbreaking career, intimate home videos she recorded herself, and a rich array of archival materials.
The film is presented in Portuguese with English subtitles.
