Brazil has the conditions to consolidate itself as one of the main global protagonists in the critical and strategic minerals market. Significant mineral reserves, energy supply and the capacity to attract investments place the country in a privileged position to meet the growing global demand for essential inputs for the energy transition and new technologies. This assessment was shared by experts and government representatives during the panel “Mineral Security and the Strategic Role of Brazil”, held this Tuesday (9), at the International Seminar on Critical and Strategic Minerals 2026, promoted by the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), in Brasília (DF). The event continues until Wednesday (10).
Moderated by the CEO of IBRAM, Pablo Cesário, the debate included the participation of the executive director for the Americas of the Eurasia Group, Christopher Garman, and the Secretary of Climate, Energy and Environment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maurício Carvalho Lyrio.
For Maurício Lyrio, Brazil's advantage goes beyond the significant availability of mineral resources. Factors such as energy supply, a diplomatic tradition of autonomy, and the potential to add value to production strengthen the country's role in an increasingly competitive global scenario. “Brazil has very special conditions to stand out in the global market for critical minerals.
According to Christopher Garman, this assessment is reinforced by the current international context, marked by a profound geopolitical reconfiguration and the growing competition for resources considered strategic for the global economy and security.
According to Pablo Cesário, Brazil is in a position to play a more active role in defining the global direction of critical minerals.
